Winter (Every Color)

Well, heRe we are! If you’ve made it this far, that’s insane and it means a TON to us. For real, if you’ve cared enough to follow us all the way to the end of this crazy thing, you’re the reason we still make music at all. And, as something special for you, you’ll see a button at the bottom of this page that’ll take you to a secret page filled with all kinds of extra goodies from the making of this record (HINT: the password’s in all caps).

But first, let’s dig into the last song on the album. It’s called Winter (Every Color) and, of course, it falls into the winter leg of the album. In true Spirit of the Bear fashion, we decided to end the album with a slow, contemplative song. This one dives into a woozy, synth-filled ballad world that, lyrically, asks a lot of “what if” questions. When I was writing it, I purposefully made it ambiguous. Its purpose is to question life; why we’re here, what we’re supposed to be doing, how to find happiness… very existential stuff that maybe tends a little pretentious, but it felt really cathartic for me to write. The biggest question this one poses, and the question I want to leave you with before we say goodbye to this whole album experience thing, is this: “If all I ever have is what I have right now, would I be okay with it?”

We love you and we appreciate you. THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts for doing this with us. Until next time!

Lyrics

Light up my world in every color
The burning heat of summer
Is giving way to winter
I can’t feel my fingers
But I’ve been doing fine

I need to know
That the world will be mine
I’m not listening when
You say it’s all over

I thought I had it figured out
But I never really will
It’s different every time I overhear

Light up my world in every color
The burning heat of summer
Is giving way to winter
I can’t feel my fingers
But there’s no in between
I thought I’d learn about the end by now
In twenty years I never thought to seek it out
But if all I ever had was just enough
To make me blend in with the trees, I’ll make a spot
In this world I’ve set
I’m not afraid to die, I’m scared that you’ll forget
Take the man out of the fool, I’m what you’ll get
I’m what you’ll get

Light up my world in every color
The burning heat of summer
Is giving way to winter
I can’t feel my fingers
But I’ve been doing fine

Time moves and I can hear the thunder
It wraps me, pulls me under
I’ll take my time
If all that I am is what I am now
I guess I’m doing fine
