Remarkably Blind

Summer Cover-min (1).jpg

Remarkably Blind is the first of a few sentimental songs on this Record.

It marks the end of the Summer leg (the dog days, if you will), and talks exclusively about self-love and my own experiences learning to love myself after a pretty hard reset that followed a less-than-ideal relationship (much of which is detailed in our previous EP). I’ve since found myself in a much better place.

This was the last song written for the record. I wrote it alone in my bedroom at my old house on a day when I was feeling extremely grateful for how far I’d come in the past year or so. It features some beautiful violins performed by our friend Nate Gelfand and some sampled kalimba from our drummer Jamie. This really is where the record starts getting more emotional, but this one’s emotion is compassion and kindness. This one’s also special for another reason; it’s the first of a few songs on the record to feature prominent background vocals from our amazing friend Aaliyah Lashaun. Listen for her amazing work near the end! More on her in the coming days, too. There’s not much else to say about it for now; go listen and hear for yourself! Hope it makes you feel nice and warm.

Lyrics

I saw myself off in the distance
Holding my head in my hands
Remarkably blind to the thoughtless
Ways of man
I heard the cries from the balcony
Where all of my cares went to die
I knew once that long day was over
I’d be fine

So will you please help me to be who I love?
In every way possible, you’ll be enough
Who knew I’d be happy enough to make myself home

I saw a lifetime run past me
Where I wasn’t present at all
A future where all my affections
Were bound to fall
I found a light when the tunnel
Was starting to break at the seams
And it burned the brightest against me
To burn me clean
